Depression is a Beast
Courtney Dixon
Most of the monsters modern-day scream queen, Jenna Kanell battles are in horror films. But one darkness she can’t always escape is depression. Director Courtney Dixon came to us with the challenge to make the deeply personal and largely invisible disease feel tangible without reducing it to a simple metaphor.

An Invisible
Struggle
Depression can be difficult to describe because so much of it happens internally. To solve this challenge, we created a visual language that moves between reality and Jenna's imagination, using 3D environments, surreal VFX, comic-book illustration, and hand-crafted animation to give shape to the "beast" she learns to tame. The result is a story that makes an invisible struggle feel immediate and personal while keeping Jenna's experience at the center.
